| Day trips out of London
To get a real feel of England it’s good to take one day out of the city and see England’s beautiful countryside. In summertime the fields are green and the gardens are a mass of flowers.
There are so many places to visit within a short distance of London you will be spoilt for choice.
For larger groups I can arrange coach transport.
For smaller groups I can either arrange a chauffeur driven vehicle
or sometimes it’s possible to get there by public transport.
The Dreaming Spires of Oxford
The ancient colleges of Oxford University crowd around the centre of
this very beautiful city. No wonder one of the colleges was chosen
as the model for Hogwarts! See where Harry Potter was filmed and
hear the fascinating history of one of the world’s most famous teaching institutions.
Stonehenge
The mystical site of Stonehenge has been there for almost 5,000 years,
and we still don’t know what it is! Make up your own mind after a visit to the ancient site.
Bath
Bath is considered to be one of England’s most beautiful cities. Created in the 18th century from the beautiful local limestone it has a truly elegant feel to its crescents and squares. The hot water springs that gave the city its name were used in Roman times and a visit to the ancient Roman baths is not to be missed.
Canterbury
As the place where christianity first took hold in Britain, Canterbury
has a particular sprititual importance. The beautiful gothic cathedral
stands in the medieval town centre and is well worth a visit.
Salisbury and Winchester
Two beautiful medieval market towns with two quite different cathedrals.
Salisbury is home to the cathedral with the highest spire in England
whereas Winchester is also home to King Arthur’s famous round table.
Warwick Castle
The true knights castle! Kids especially love Warwick Castle because
it’s everything they imagine a castle to be with battlements, archery displays and sometimes the odd ghost too!
Stratford upon Avon
Known throughout the world as the home of William Shakespeare, Stratford
is a beautiful example of Elizabethan architecture. See where Shakespeare
was born and where he also lies buried. Just outside Stratford lies
the home of his wife, Ann Hathaway, with its thatched roof and delightful
garden.
Kent
Kent is the
south east corner of England and is also known as ‘the garden of England’. Not only is the countryside beautiful there is also a wealth of interesting places to visit. Leeds Castle is often called ‘the loveliest castle in the world’, set by a lake and surrounded by parkland. Hever Castle was owned by the family of Ann Boleyn, Henry VIII’s
unlucky second wife. Winston Churchill fans will want to visit Chartwell,
his home for many years. There are also several beautiful gardens in
Kent including Sissinghurst and Penshurst.
